Open For Business

Yellow Band Coffee.

What’s been happening lately? Well, Lee and Morgan were kind enough to sell us the company in November of 2024. That was a good time, then we started settling in San Antonio. We purchased a new roaster, one that allowed us to use a different energy source and still get amazing coffee out of it. Now we are slowly crawling our way up from the bottom, hoping to become one of San Antonio's favorite coffees.

Let’s start with the purchase. Morgan and my wife, Amy, are friends from high school. They've known each other for a long time, so when she and Lee wanted to start this coffee business, they reached out to Amy, who has a background in art to help with the graphic art designs for the business. Because we were excited for them, we became customers from the start, enjoying the many delicious coffees they had to offer. That is until Amy got a text from Morgan offering to sell us the company. They moved to Ohio, and could not continue roasting coffee in their new location. Amy and I talked it over and we said yes!

Plans were now in motion to catalog and prep everything to be moved from Troy. Ohio all the way down to San Antonio, Texas. Naturally, we drove! Amy, both my girls, and I squeezed into the highlander and headed for Ohio the week before thanksgiving and brought everything down, just in time for the holidays. Our kids played with their kids, Lee mentored me in roasting while Army and Morgan talked numbers and admin stuff. 1,000 pounds of green coffee, bunches of bags and shipping equipment, plus a boat load of other miscellaneous things awkwardly stuffed in a Uhaul, then pulled 1200 miles in 2 days. Memories that will last a lifetime. The girls had a blast, we ate some really good food along the way, and the most important thing is that the trailer never fell off.

Once we got home, the reality of the whole thing sank in.Mostly because I had to find somewhere to put everything. We managed to store and organize most everything just in time for thanksgiving. Then all the paperwork needed to be filled out and taken care of. As soon as the boring stuff was over we could talk about fun things, like what kind of roaster we should get, where should we put it and who do we sell it to? There were a lot of things to consider when faced with the reality of "I own a business.”

Slowly we got everything settled and ready to go into production. We bought a Bellwether Roaster, which we can go into the specifics of in a later blog, and after setting it up and getting familiar with how it operates, I'm finally producing coffee I enjoy.

Now, the journey is to produce coffee that I love. Which brings us to today. I currently have four roasts available which I have modeled some after the original roasts that Lee created, and a few that I created myself. I want to honor the work Lee put in and make sure the coffee stays the same, but we also want to look to the future and leave our own mark on the craft.

As we grow as a company , and I grow as a roaster, our coffee will continue to change and grow right along with us. I am so excited to see where all this leads to, especially as we gain feedback from our customers. At every point in my life God has always been present to guide me where I need to be and what I need to be focused on. This is no different. I know that this company will do great works over the course of its history, just as God intended.

Thank you for coming along this journey with us. We pray that great things will happen through this gift we’ve been given,by providing amazing coffee to all our friends and families!
